Pauline and Kieran: A lesson in awesome

I remember being contacted by Kieran and Pauline about their wedding because they attached a video of their save the date.

As soon as I saw it I thought “Please, please let me be able to be their celebrant. I think I love this couple!”.

At first, I wasn’t going to be able to do their wedding as I had a booking, but fate must have smiled on me in some ways because months down the track I got another email from Pauline to say they had changed their date and would I be available.

Now, I already had a booking but we worked it out. I would get to Tocal Homested as soon as I possibly could on the day, and Kieran and Pauline would have their photos done before the ceremony.

That is how awesome, relaxed and wonderful this couple is.

Pauline, a talented writer/editor was in charge of the ceremony and I just added the legal bits and my own experience and opinion. These two knew what they wanted, and they knew exactly how to get it.

But the surprise on the day was the reading they chose. It wasn’t from a famous poet, or author, it was a collection of moments from letters written between Pauline and Kieran over the 13 years they had known each other. First as friends, and then showing how their relationship evolved into something more…

And it was completely wonderful.

And to top it all off, Kieran and Pauline have allowed me the honour of sharing some of these moments with you [dear blog reader] in the hope that you will get inspired to do something wonderful and personal for your special day.

(February 2003) Dear Pauline, Remember when I said I wanted a girlfriend? Well I still do, but when I think of a girlfriend, I can only think of you. Maybe one day you will feel the same.

(June 2004) Dear Kieran, Lets both drop PE this year! That way we can have free periods together on Tuesday and Friday’s, and we can walk home together and hang out earlier in the afternoon.

(March 2007) Dear Kieran, I miss you living down the road from me. Moving to QLD has been hard without getting to see my best friend everyday. I’ve been trying to figure out the best way to tell you, but this will have to do. I think I like you, more than a friend, but it’s not a big deal. It will probably go away soon, I just thought I’d let you know.

(April 2007) Dear Pauline, I didn’t know you felt that way, I liked you for ages, but now we’re such good friends, I don’t want to ruin that.

(May 2007) Dear Pauline, Pick up your phone. I’ve been trying to call you. I’ve just rushed home from Uni and handed in a half finished assignment, after realising I’ve made a mistake. Lets give this a shot! I hope you haven’t changed your mind.

(July 2007) Dear Pauline, I love you more than I could have ever imagined after just 3 months.

(December 2008) Dear Kieran, Thank you for being by my side during the hardest year of my life so far. Little things you do mean the world to me, thank you for bringing me comfy clothes all those weeks I spent by my dad’s side at the hospital.

(February 2012) Dear Pauline, I feel so lucky you said yes, do you think our family would kill us if we just eloped while we’re overseas?

(September 2013) Dear Kieran, I can’t wait for all of this to start paying off. Thank you for pretending to care about flower arrangements and wedding favors all these months. And for being patient with me throughout my decision making process of choosing white or ivory coloured napkins. That’s how I know you’re the one!

(November 2013) Dear Pauline, Only a few more days now, lets lock this baby in!
